Walking into a climbing gym for the first time can feel intimidating — ropes, chalk, people hanging sideways off the wall. Here’s everything you actually need to know before your first session.
What to wear
Comfortable athletic clothing you can move and stretch in. Avoid anything too baggy that could snag. We provide climbing shoes, chalk and harnesses with every pass.
Your first hour
- Free safety orientation covering falling and gym etiquette
- Start on the bouldering walls — no ropes, soft pads
- Try a few beginner routes marked with colored tape
- Ask staff for beta whenever you’re stuck
Don’t overthink it
Everyone was a beginner once. Climb at your own pace, rest when your forearms get pumped, and celebrate every small send. You’ll be hooked by the end of week one.
